Tuesday, November 4th, 2008Making Every Sign Positive – or – Being Optimistic (Part I)
Monday, November 3rd, 2008I met a former CCNY classmate on the subway, in September. I just couldn’t make out who he was. Him and I had taken a trip together as student delegates to an AIAS convention way back. I knew I knew him. I tried hard to jog my memory, by reading “over his shoulder”. I’m real glad he looked up. That’s when I fully recognized him. He told me he’s licensed now. I checked online, he got licensed in August! On the train, I thought he said, “Four months ago.” I must have misheard, “A month ago!” I am always impressed to hear a CCNY alumnus has achieved becoming a Registered Architect.
I chose to take meeting up with him as a clear sign. The universe wants me to be licensed. From what I know, most of the CCNY alumni, that graduated around my time, have not pursued licensure. Anytime I meet anyone from CCNY (or otherwise) pursuing or having achieved a license, I’m thrilled. I always take it as a hopeful example that a positive outcome of this exam is very much possible! It’s all a part of staying positive!
Gene Shallot
Monday, November 3rd, 2008That’s what my Mom called me the other day. She said, “You know who you look like? Gene Shallot. Do you remember? The guy who used to do the movie reviews?” I remembered him. I did a search on the internet and realized some of you may not know him. You were too busy in architectural classes, or at work, to see him on TV. Or I’m of a different era. Meaning I’m a bit older! Or culturally, you just never caught his movie reviews, because you were watching something else. I don’t think he had his own show. I think he had a segment and was part of the news or some entertainment show. Maybe some of you know him from Family Guy. Either way, it is generally not good to have a perceived resemblance to Gene Shallot.
You see, I had made a commitment to myself to not cut my hair until I achieved my architectural license. I could trim it but not really cut it. Well. I just can’t make it. This unruly appearance has got to go. I’m cutting it today. Managing this hair has defeated me. (I’ve tried this before.) How women deal with hair care, I find impressive. The point being, if you set up some common “thread” alongside achieving your license make it something that doesn’t take up too much time and make you appear unruly! (I basically refuse going to the hair salon for two or more hours. So the hair has got to go.)
