One More Architect!

Congratulations Just! :P

I was congratulating Justdrawinglines on attaining her license. I wrote something about her achieving a little more Freedom. Seems a bit over the top, but I think it’s true. More freedom to practise. More freedom to decide. New York state has given her rights that not everybody else has. Congrats Just!

Aw, thanks! It’s still unbelievable. I agree about the feeling of total freedom. It’s a bit unnerving, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. Since getting that number, I’ve been concentrating on finding a client. This is not an easy task. Looking for a job is a full time job. It also requires some dough, which kind of sucks, but it will pay off in the end. I have my first client interview tomorrow as a real architect. I’m very nervous, and it will be weird blowing my own horn instead of some firm’s or another architect’s. I really want this gig! So cross your fingers, toes, eyes, etc.!

I said more freedom, not total freedom! We are still limited by what we learn and experience. Part of the reason we reach out to consultants and colleagues when necessary. But you know that. Still, more freedom rocks!

I hope your client interview went well. Each aspect of a business can be so different. Designing/drafting is very different from the marketing/sales side of an architecture business. You can’t really show trace paper sketches to a prospective client, whom you’ve never met! I hope you got that commission, or the interview leads to a commission soon. Good luck!
