What I Should Be Doing

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

It’s been a couple of weeks, since a post. I’d rather not get into why that is. But I will get into what I should be doing to tackle my next architect registration exam, Structural Systems. I should be going through flashcards, reviewing questions in the PPI exam practice book and lurking in the AREforum’s structural systems forum to pick up on anything I might be missing.

I’ve bolstered myself with a lot of books to get thru this exam. But I haven’t looked at any besides the PPI ARE Review Manual. I’m not comfortable about that. That’s not enough. (And I haven’t finished all of the Structural Systems chapters.) I even have the recommended FEMA document to read. I’ve got a lot of material to help myself. I’ve got to use it before my exam.

My exam is scheduled in November before Thanksgiving. I’ve taken off the work week before the exam to study and I’ve taken off two earlier days in November. As of today I have less than 4 weeks to prepare. I don’t intend to reschedule. This exam will be a costly learning experience if it has to be. I don’t intend to put it off any further.

Supplemental Exam

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Intern architects in New York don’t have the California Supplemental Exam. (Duh.) But some of you reading do. I feel for you.

I’m sure you’re interested in some more information playing itself out on possible changes to come for this oral exam. (Eew. Even sounds gross.) Check out these links for more info:

Scheduling Exams

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Scheduling two exams the other day, I was thinking about having enough time to study. This time I set the tests three months apart. Even though two exams, Structural Systems (SS) and Building Design and Construction Systems (BDCS), may have content overlap, I don’t think there’s enough FOR ME to treat them this way.

My remaining exams are Schematic Design (SD), Building Systems (BS) and the two above (BDCS and SS).
